Has a tree on your property become problematic? The faster you act, the better chance you have of saving it.
Ignoring it won’t make the problem go away. And if it is a fairly large tree, it has the potential to cause a lot of damage if it were to fall. Not only is that an expensive risk, but a dangerous one as well.
Here in the Portland metro area, we are susceptible to heavy rain and windstorms. Dead or dying trees should be attended to as soon as possible to determine if they should be cut down. Problems can include:
- Dead branches
These are all signs of internal damage to the tree, and quite often the damage cannot be undone. On rare occasion, the tree can be brought back to life and strengthened by cutting off the diseased or damaged parts and watering it heavily, but it is still at risk. Typically, if 50 percent or more of the tree is visibly damaged, it should be removed.
Determining If It’s Time To Remove A Tree
Deciding whether or not to remove the tree is tricky business because sometimes the damage may not be visible. And in some cases, the type of tree is not suitable for the area it’s in. If the tree is in an area that poses risk, such as near power lines, it may need to be cut down despite its health. If it’s leaning to one side or doesn’t have enough room to grow, removal may be the only option. The weaker the tree is, the more likely it is to fall.
